Waterproofing fails mostly because of poor surface preparation or the wrong system.
1. Roofs: reflective roof coatings or torch-on membranes, depending on the build-up and exposure.
2. Bathrooms and wet rooms: cementitious or liquid membranes applied before tiling, turned up the walls.
3. Basements and water tanks: ask for a system approved for that use.
4. Prepare the surface: clean, sound, repaired cracks, correct slopes.
5. Apply the specified number of coats and the right thickness.
6. Test by flooding a wet area for a day before covering it.
